In January, 1993 gospel quartet music supporters traveled from across America to Baton Rouge, Louisiana for the first American Gospel Quartet Convention. The two day event, held at Church Point Ministries, also drew support from as far as Milan, Italy. Those who attended were treated to seminars, showcases and concerts.
Spearheaded by Minister George W. Stewart, the founding committee members include: Bishop Dwight D. Pate, Willie Neal Johnson, Teddy Cross and Doc McKenzie. As The American Gospel Quartet Convention has grown, the Advisory Board has expanded to include an influential cross segment in the quartet industry. Some of these individuals are: Robert Blair, Joe Ligon, Jerry Mannery (MALACO), Luther Barnes, Brenda Lumzy, Roy "Mr. Malaco" Wooten, Evenlyn Turrentine-Agee and others.
Through the unselfish support of The Advisory Board, Record Labels, Promoters, Announcers, Managers and The Gospel Quarteters and their supporters, The American Gospel Quartet Convention is making a tremendous impact on the quartet field. We have come a long way, but the wonderful journey will continue until every quarteter is on board. The Lord promised, "If I Can Get The Quarteters Saved, I Can Save The World Through Them". |
